Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-25-23  goodevans: Wild game.

Praggnanandhaa had the upper hand but chose to play a 'safer' move, 16...Qe7, rather than continue the complications with 16...fxe4 at which point, ironically, his advantage evaporated.

21...Be5?, losing a piece, was a strange blunder. Did he think he saw something that wasn't there?

Jan-26-23  Ulhumbrus: 14...f5 tries to open lines against White's king in the centre. Instead of 16...Qe7 which allows White to close the lines by 17 e5, 16...fxe4 seems consistent.

Instead of 17...Ncxe5, 17...Nd4 18 Nxd4 Bxd4 forks the b2 and e5 pawns

Instead of 18...Bd6, 18...Qc7 unpins the N on e5 as quickly as possible.

21...Be5 may be based on some oversight. Perhaps there was something that Praggnanandhaa saw too late.

fredthebear: A blogger posted this information about names on youtube in the comments section below the video:

"Praggnanandhaa and Gukesh are both from Tamil Nadu where traditionally you take your father's first name as a surname and are given a first name which you go by. If you look up their families, Pragg's father is Rameshbabu and Gukesh's is Dommaraju. That's why you'll see them with first names only, or with an initial for their father's name since that is inherited and not given. That's also why Vaishali will often be seen as Vaishali R or Vaishali Rameshbabu since she and Pragg share a father."

Jan-24-24  Guggirap: fredthebear, while the bloggers comment about Pragg was correct, Gukesh's father name is not Dommaraju, it's actually his family name. This discrepancy is because even though Gukesh is from Tamil Nadu, his family hails from another state (Andhra) where they still follow the family name custom
