Jul-18-23  tonsillolith: Oof, after <35. Bd6>, White has Black in a heck of s pickle. This is a convincing advertisement for the bishop pair.

perfidious: Facing Carlsen is a difficult task at the best of times, but handing over two bishops in an open position set Black a nigh insuperable defensive burden.
Jul-20-23  tonsillolith: Ain't that the truth. But to add insult to injury, when he is the one who ends up with the knights, it's usually the knights that are superior!

It's the darndest thing.

Jul-20-23  tonsillolith: Firouzja vs Carlsen, 2020 is another game where the opponent has two knights trying to hold the fort down at home, while Carlsen's bishops pierce through the situation.

Each bishop takes aim at one knight, and though the knights guard one another so can "reload" to take over the defensive duties of the other, White's forces are still strained past capacity and succumb to a removal of the guard tactic.
