Jul-17-23  Saniyat24: Tabatabaei's King was so in the open, but he still managed to win... a very interesting game, especially that last sequence...!
Jul-23-23  Atking: The pawn structure is incredibly challenging. 13.b4!?? 16.gxN!?? You don't go to such line without deep preparation. For if 18...Bf6 19.Qg4 Kf7 20.f5!? ...20...e5 21.c4!!? Crazy 21...dxc 22.BxN Qd4 23.Qg2! ~ 24.Be3 and if 23...QxR? 24.Qd5+ Ke7 25.Bd2 Qb2 26.Be3 wins
Mar-24-24  King.Arthur.Brazil: It doesn't seem so insane, since open the ♙ wall to expose the ♔ is a natural choice: 21. Bxf5 gxf5 22. Qxf5+ Kg7 23. Re6 Qd8 24. Bh6+ Kg8 25. Rg6+ hxg6 26. Qxg6#. Or 21. Bxf5 gxf5 22. Qxf5+ Qf6 23. Qxd5+ Kg7 24. Re6 Qf7 25. Bh6+ Kg8 26. Qxa8+ Bf8 27. Qg2+ Bg7 28. Re8+ Qxe8 29. Qxg7#. I guess other lines lead to almost same position.
Mar-24-24  King.Arthur.Brazil: The king believes that the following move also wins: 49. h7 Rd1 50. g8=Q c1=Q 51. Rxd1 Qxd1+ 52. Qg1+ Qxg1+ 53. Kxg1 end.
Mar-24-24  mel gibson: I didn't know.

Stockfish 16 says:

21. Bxf5

(21. Bxf5 (1.Bxf5 gxf5 2.Qxf5+ Ke8 3.Bg5 Rg8 4.f4 Qd7 5.Qf6 Rxg5+ 6.fxg5 Kd8 7.Qh8+ Qe8 8.Qxh7 Nxc3 9.Qg7 Ne4 10.Rad1 Kc8 11.Rxd5 Bxb4 12.Re5 Qd8 13.R1xe4 Bc3 14.Qe7 Qd1+ ) +1.94/49 276)

score for White +1.94 depth 49.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Had a feeling we had a speculative sacrifice brewing. Nice to know that it truly was speculative and not another routine combination. Curious week--8 puzzles solved, 3 flubbed, 2 already known, and 1 possibly cooked position. Will try again next week.
Mar-24-24  sfm: Cute ending! 49.Rc1 looks like a blunder, allowing Black to get a queen with check! Then you see the last move.
Mar-24-24  jffun1958: After trading the queens, this leads to an easily won ending. The remote passed pawn on the h-file will promote to a Q. For example the game could continue like this:
53...Qxg1+ 54. Kxg1 Ka5 55. h7 Ka4 56. Kf2 Kb5 57. h8=Q

click for larger view

57. ... Kc6 58. Qd4 a5 59. Qc4+ Kb6 60. Ke3 Kb7 61. Qb5+

... and White will capture both Black pawns and mate in 6.
