PeterLalic: I was so impressed by this classical game that I submitted it to chessgames.com.

Black to move. Check. Last: 16.Qxg6+.

I don't remember ever seeing so many brilliancies in one game: 16...Kf8!!, 17 Bc1!!, 20 Ra2!!, 21...Rxh6!!, 31...Kg8!!, and 35 Kf1!!.

Black to move. Last: 25.Qf2.

Unfortunately, 25...Nxd3+?? ruins its immortality. How could a titled player, let alone a GM, trade such a good knight for such a bad bishop?

Sep-01-23  VerySeriousExpert: Dear Mr. Lalic, thank you a lot for submission of this game here. And for your comment. First of all, let me argue kindly about the brilliancy of the move 17.Bc1! . You are right, it is the best move! But it is a trivial move, without alternatives for White.

fredthebear: Me thinks the average Martian would've played 17.hxBg4. Yeah, most bears would've captured the piece too.
Sep-01-23  VerySeriousExpert: @fredthebear
Dear Sir, I think, your comment isn't very polite, sorry. Although you are right that 17.hg?? is a terrible move because of 17...Ne7! -+.

fredthebear: Me cannot decide which is best around a Martian, to be polite or right? What would Bullwinkle do? If it's just us bears, we'd call time out, sniff and snort grace, and dig into the picnic basket. Is that so terrible?

After 17.hxBg4 Ne7! Me thinks the average Martian and most bears would then play 18.Qxh6+. It's a capture thing.

Dear Sir, sorry, you are right that 17.hg Ne7! isn't so terrible for White. It was my mistaken conclusion. Really, after 18.Qxh6+ Rxh6 19.Rxh6 Neg8! 20.Rh4 the fight continues.
Sep-06-23  VerySeriousExpert: Dear Mr. Lalic, sorry! It was my mistaken conclusion about "no alternatives for 17.Bc1!".
Sep-06-23  VerySeriousExpert: But, nevertheless, even a top GM will not play 17.hg, I think. It is very difficult for a human to see here enough compensation for White's Queen.
Sep-06-23  VerySeriousExpert: In contrast with it, the capture 16.hg (N) 16...hg 17.Rxh8+ Kd7 18.Rxa8 is absolutely normal for a human!
