Sally Simpson: This game was awarded the Hugh Alexander Best Game of the British Championship Prize (£150.00)

Don't bother playing through it. White was piece up from move 35 and then shuffles two Bishop about for the rest of the 58 moves till Black, down to less than a minute on their clock, resigned. (wow)

Can't say Howell didn't warn us. His book (with Carlsen) is titled "Grind Like A Grandmaster."

Hans-Joachim Federer might well give him a run for his money.

Sally Simpson: I think due to the haste in getting out of the building due to the rioting going outside they just grabbed a scoresheet with a win by the highest rated player in the tournament and fobbed everyone of with that.

Not doubt some pseud will happen along and explain the finer details to us peasants.

  Sally Simpson: Hi Miss Scarlett,

Around about 2011, I think it started with a claim he could play for Scotland in the Olympiad because he had a Scottish grand parent. I recall chipping in on the debate saying I am 99th in line for board and at the next Olympiad if he joins I'll be 100th. etc..etc..usual rant.

Mathew Turner has never been awarded a best game prize at the British despite having 1995 wins v McShane and Howell - obviously another fix has gone in.

Sally Simpson: From Leonard Barden's Guardian column. 9th August 2024.

"One award has sparked some critical comments. The £150 Alexander prize for the best game went to Howell against Ameet Ghasi for what seemed a good advertisement for the Carlsen/Howell book Grind like a Grandmaster. The award did not name the judge(s) nor whether any other games were considered."
