потезу.> (ПОЛИТИКА (Politics), 23 May 1984, p. 13)

Google transl:

On April 23, 1860, a chess game was played and recorded in Karlovac between Dr. Antun Jordan, the then mayor, and an unknown chess player. That record was found in Dr. Jordan's legacy by our well-known chess problemist and historian Isidor Gross (1866-1943) and published in 1912 in his book "The History of Chess". The party was reported under Dr. Jordan's pseudonym "Svetletić". As White, he checked his opponent in the Evans Gambit on move 24.

Oct-08-24  cameosis: interesting that politika considered publishing it in the early 1980s, 70 years after it was first published by izidor gross.

i took the game directly from his 1912 book, it’s listed as the source in the pgn.

Oct-08-24  cameosis: gross was killed in the concentration camp jasenovac in 1942, together with other members of his family, according to most accounts, not 1943.

albeit he was a problemist, i hope a game or two of his shows up eventually.

Oct-09-24  stone free or die: For a photo of <Izidor Gross>, see here:

C.N. 10899.

Oct-09-24  cameosis: better source in bigger resolution from the source itself:

Oct-09-24  stone free or die: Yes, a much better photo, thanks <cameosis>.

(Someone should tell Winter to upgrade his stuff... wonder if the other players photos are )

Oct-09-24  stone free or die: (upgradable too)
Oct-09-24  stone free or die: <<cameosis> albeit he [ie I. Gross] was a problemist, i hope a game or two of his shows up eventually.>

I found one, a brevity:

<Gross, Izidor -- Gross, Mavro (C50j) 15w 1-0>

<Šahovska abeceda (1907) p88/92>

https://digitalna.nsk.hr/?pr=iiif.v...

Oct-09-24  cameosis: you're the man! need to download this one as well, then. now he can be added to the database, awesome.
Oct-09-24  cameosis: <stone free or die> it’s an odds/handicap game, he gave his son mavro odds of rook a1. there is also a notation error, namely 8.Bd1-e3, which actually should read 8.Bc1-e3, should be around 1906, shortly before publication. his son was born in 1893.
Oct-09-24  stone free or die: Agree with your post except the source for the son's info is missing.
Oct-10-24  cameosis: second edition from 1923 as pdf:
