FSR: This is an ICCF correspondence game. Gulbis and I are both rated in the 2350s. Games between players rated over 2300 almost always end in draws, not because we're so strong, but because our engines are. This is our fourth game. In each, he has been White, and the game has been drawn, in between 30 and 39 moves. https://www.chessgames.com/perl/che...

When I played 6...O-O, I told Gulbis I had submitted this conditional to the server: 7.e4 a6 8.e5 b5 9.Qb3 Nfd7 10.e6 fxe6 11.Qxe6+ Kh8 12.Qe4 Nb6 13.Be3 Bf5 14.Qh4 Nc6 15.g4 e5 16.Ng5 h6 17.gxf5 exd4 18.O-O-O Qe7 19.Bg2 dxe3 20.Bxc6 Rab8 21.Nf3 Qc5 22.Rhg1 exf2 23.Rxg6 Rbd8 24.Rxd8!? f1=Q+ 25.Rd1 Qe3+ 26.Kb1 Qxc3 27.Qxh6+! Bxh6 28.Rxh6+ Kg7 29.Rg6+. The game ends in a perpetual check, despite Black being two queens up. Just gorgeous. I told Gulbis he could play into that line, or deviate at any point and play for a win. (As he played the moves I had specified for White, mine would be automatically triggered.)

He said nothing, as is his right obviously, and played the insipid 7.h3 instead. I got a slight advantage, but of course the game ended in a draw. Yawn.
