HeMateMe: Is there a carnal theme lurking in this pun?
May-25-25  erimiro1: No stalemate. Pawn h3 is unprotected. But how can black win?

master8ch: 65.Rd3+ leads to a draw by stalemate or 50-move rule, because no matter what Black does, White continues checking on the d-file. (If Black decides to "hide" at h4, then Rh5+ forces the stalemate.)

OhioChessFan: Crazy Rook. After Kxh3, Rh1+ Kg2, the Rook keeps checking.
May-25-25  goodevans: We shouldn't be too hard on White. It's not too difficult to see the stalemate coming once you know it's there. He didn't have that luxury which goes a long way towards understanding his blunder.

Black didn't see it either else he'd never have pushed his f-pawn.

I've said before that R+P endgames are a big weakness of mine but I think even I can see the clear win Black has once the Bs come off. Here's the position after White's 59th move:

As far as I can see Black's winning plan is clear: Just push both wing pawns (I don't think the order matters). White is forced to defend with his R on a3 or a4 and K on h2. Black picks of the d-pawn and then sooner or later White is forced to move either R or K. Moving the K allows check whilst if he moves the R then Black's K invades.

A plan so simple even I can see it and indeed it's what Black eventually did but only after the completely unnecessary advance of his f-pawn. That should have cost him the win but he got lucky this time.

Sally Simpson: Yes hard to spot in the heat of the battle. I looked at the game for the times at chess.com. It was probably only spotted by the masses when the the pop-up says 'Black Won' but the evo bar was sitting confidently in the middle.

White was down to 35 seconds on move 65 but then blitz out a few moves till increment gave him 2:17 minutes. Then White resigned.

One tricky moment after Kxh3, Rh1+ Kg2, a1=Q.

Here after checking continually on the back rank Black can head for here...

White must switch to checking on the d-file. Rd4+ as Re8+ losses. which I discovered when trying to the chess.com computer wrong.

May-25-25  goodevans: <White must switch to checking on the d-file. Rd4+ as Re8+ losses.>

Yep. If White keeps checking on the eighth rank then Black's K will reach safety on h7 as g7 and h8 are both covered by Black's Q.

Yes, but it's still quite tricky. After obvious 70.Kxh3 Rh1+ 71.Kg2 a1=Q 72.Rd8+ Kc4 73.Rc8+ Kd5 it is necessary to avoid a situation, when the Rook could have been taken by the Queen. For example, 74.Rc5+ would be a grave mistake losing the game after 74...Kd4!, as now black King can reach e1, where white Rook cannot check him from e5, neither from d1. And after correct 74.Rd8+ Ke6 or 74...Ke5 white cannot just continue with cheks from the eigth rank but he must switch to checks via d-file, i.e. 75.Rd6+ or 75.Rd5+.
