MissScarlett: The January 1903 <BCM> claims this was one of the simul games at the <Birmingham Y.M.C.A.>, but its own account of Marshall's December visit to Birmingham (consisting of five exhibitions) contradicts this, stating the YMCA display on December 13th involved his playing Black on 21 boards (with an additional blindfold consultation game).

jnpope: Their game at the YMCA was a Petroff, drawn after 41 moves.

This game appears to be the one played Monday, December 8, 16 board simul at the St. George's CC in Birmingham.

MissScarlett: Yes, the <Sutton Coldfield News> of December 13th, p.3, has Burgoyne as one of the losers, Marshall scoring +14 =2.

jnpope: And the game can be found in the <Birmingham Daily Post>, 1902.12.16, p8. Definitely from the 16b simul at the St. George's.
