Jan-31-06 | | RStorm: I'd say there's about a 100 point rating difference between Fruit 2.1 and crafty 19.19 (In Fruit's favor.) |
Mar-15-06 | | chessmoron: Fruit is a strong engine but still can't overcome Zappa (losing twice!) |
Mar-15-06 | | notyetagm: Wait until Rybka shows up in their testing.

Apr-16-06 | | chessmoron: Why haven't Rybka played Fruit it? |
Apr-16-06 | | Dionyseus: <chessmoron> Fruit has played against Rybka many times. According to the CEGT rating list, Rybka 1.1 wins 75.5% of the time against Fruit 2.2-2.21, an elo rating perfomance of 2983.

May-27-06 | | chessmoron: Does any one has the commercial Fruit engine? I already setup Fruit in Arena, then what? The playing sucked. Need some advice. |
Jul-02-06 | | Hesam7: What happened to Fruit? No new releases and I think its website has not been updated for the past 6 months. |

Jul-12-06 | | soughzin: What's the strongest free engine? |

Jan-16-07 | | James Bowman: I am running fruit on my hand held and it is brutal and relentless, the only chance I have is to get a closed center wait for it to castle into trouble and open the h file with pawns. The machine plays both sides of the board in ways I can not comprehend and this is on a 400mhz hand held set to expert. I have run anaconda but its play is just silly at times. I wish chessmaster would create a programable version for windows based hand helds. |
Feb-20-07 | | Hesam7: According to fruitchess there is no future development for Fruit. |

Jun-16-08 | | Swifty31: I have version 2.2 of Fruit and Rybka 2.3.2 and have spared with them in Arena. I have a single processor, but the first tourney to 10 games Fruit beat Rybka, 4 wins 3 draws and 3 wins for Rybka. So I played them in a tourney of 6 games and it came out even. I thought Rybka was supposed to be superior to all other engines, thats why I forked over the cash for a engine that doesnt even have its own gui. Am I doing something wrong or are they just evenly matched, with Fruit being a tad bit better? |
Jun-16-08 | | Gildiss: No "totally objective method" is known to claim that rybka its superior, independent testing not always favours rybka, and personally i understand your engine match result. |
Jun-16-08 | | percyblakeney: <Swifty31> I think you just have played too few games, tests including more than a thousand games for each engine give these types of results: http://www.husvankempen.de/nunn/40_... |
Jun-18-08 | | Swifty31: Thanks for the replys. I have played them a bunch now. Rybka and Fruit both crush Delphi, the other engine I have. But Fruit is at least equal to Rybka, in fact a little better from the tournaments on my machine. And Fruit is free to download, it used to be sold but now its free. |
Jun-18-08 | | whiteshark: <Swifty31> I think these <engine ratings> based on special setups that vary (from the testing community). They all are a kind of clinical. As for the lastest versions of Fruit check http://www.superchessengine.com/ every now and again. Recently it's Fruit 2.3.1. |
Jul-09-08 | | Swifty31: I think I have figured out what I was doing wrong. Fruit seems to be using the Nalimov tablebases and Rybka wasnt accessing them, I turned them off for both to be fair, and Rybka started beating Fruit more and has taken the lead. Thanks for the link I will tryout the new fruit. Do you guys use opening books? I have them both using Arena's opening book, Rybka comes with a book but Arena cant open the book. |

Jul-15-08 | | vesivialvy93: I have fruit 2.2.1 and chessmaster 10th edition (same computer), i don't understand why but in 10 games in 1 minute per move fruit destroyed CM10 +6-1=3 and in 10 blitz games 5 sec per move CM10 crushed fruit2.2.1 +8-2...Chessmaster looks incredibly strong in very short games , is someone can play CM9000 or 10th against Rybka in 3 or 5minutes game or with both in 5 seconds per move in average, not longer please thx!! |

Aug-01-08 | | Swifty31: I have since posting this message purchased Deep Shredder 11 with Shredder gui, I have also bought a quad pc Vista 32 bit. In a 25 match with Rybka 2.3.2 A MP vs. Deep Shredder 11 I have the following match results Deep Shredder won 11 there were 8 draws and Rybka took 6 games. So Deep Shredder was stronger on my new PC. But I had to use the Shredder book for both programs, that may give Shredder the edge. Against Fruit, Shredder won 14 games, 8 draws, and Fruit only won 3 games. Deep Shredder 11 is an animal! |
Aug-01-08 | | Swifty31: Against Crafty 22, Deep Shredder ran the table with 19 wins and 6 draws. He also laid waste to my other two engines, Chess Tiger 2007, and Pro Deo 1.6. Does anyone know the best version of Toga II for me to download? I would like a version that uses multiple processors. I want to pit Deep Shredder against it. |
