Nov-13-09  spawn2: <guys>

heard sa Sports Raadio yesterday news regarding GM Joey's sentiments on his upcoming match against GM Gata. GM Antonio said that he has around 30% chance of upsetting GM Kamsky. Against he said that based on their current ELO ratings but I know that current ELO of GM Joey does not reflect his true strength. Estimate ko mga 50% chance nya to put one over GM Gata.

also, according to the news, GM Joey and GM Gata met before in HB Global Tournament with their game ending in a draw when GM Joey used his Pet Opening for Black : The Caro kann.

GM Joey, naniniwala kami sa Galing ng Pinoy!

Nov-14-09  mysql: gmjoey is very well-conditioned and has been performing great these past tournaments. Good luck. :o)
Nov-15-09  pinoymaster77: All the best for gmjoey in his WCC match vs Kamsky.

Nov-20-09  granyid: Wishing safe arrival to Russia...
Nov-21-09  rjsolcruz: WCC, Siberia

The games have begun! Gata served a well-cooked 1.e4 and idol Joey, who owns one of the deadliest 3-point shot, rifled the all familiar 1... c6, which is known in theory as the Caro-Kann.

Caro-Kan. It sounds familiar! Our idol is like a fish in the water here but it is interesting to know what Gata has cooked up. Is it something like adobo sa gata or the all time fav Bicol Express?

Nov-21-09  rjsolcruz: Caro-Kann Defense
According to Modern Chess Openings, "Many famous players have since maade use of the opening, but its greatest exponents have been three World Champions of the 20th century: CAPABLANCA, at the beginning of the century; BOTVINNIK in the middle years and KARPOV at the end."
Nov-21-09  rjsolcruz: Chessdom.com by GM Christian Bauer

1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 Bf5 4.Nf3 e6 5.Be2
Gata tries something more fun than the London-system! This line has become quite fashionable vs the Caro-Kann. Kamsky has probably improved his repertoire as a consequence of preparation for his match against Topalov. White relies on his space advantage there. while Black has a solid game and counter-play based on ...c5 and ...f6. Antonio is already thinking, I guess he was surprised by the opening choice of Gata

5... Nd7 6.O-O
Now Black is supposed to continue ...Bg6 and then ...f7-f6. Last month in Novi Sad, GM Solak moved his Knight g8-e7-f5-h6-g8! in the opening, against Shirov, and managed to hold a draw. *

Nov-21-09  rjsolcruz: On 5... Nd7

GM Joey had previously played 5... Ne7 vs Wang Hao in the Asian Individual Ch 2007 which he lost.

He has also played 5... Nd7 vs Surya Ganguly in the Asian Continental Ch 2009 which he also lost. Yes, he lost the battle vs Ganguly but won the Subic War which became his ticket to this Wordl Cup.

Will there be a deja vu in Siberia?
