LIFE Master AJ: Kerry Leahy is a strong master. (2300+)

He lived in New England for nearly 20 years, and then moved back to Pensacola. (He was stationed at Eglin when he was in the Air Force, and I believe his wife is from this area.)

Jan-05-06  SickedChess: 2300+ USCF ELO, no Fide master or ELO.. not strong for me ;) IMHO USCF ELO = overrated

LIFE Master AJ: I am sure you would wipe the floor with anyone who played you (on the Internet) ... I'll bet your ELO is 3500 or better.

It wasn't till I was well past my best days that I got my own FIDE rating, in the late 1990s, when I'd fallen from 2300 to 2200 USCF.

Not everyone lived and played in New York or California; even in Boston in the 1980s, where I played so much of my master-level career, one then had to attain a 2200 performance-it's far easier to get that 1800 rating to be published nowadays.

There have been other ~2300 players whom I've known who never got the magic FIDE rating which evidently deems them good enough-in your eyes, anyway!
