James Ferguson Smyth, born Glasgow, Scotland; died Oakland, CA, USA.

Arrived in the US on 20 April 1890 and lived in Brooklyn until at least 1900. He ended up in San Francisco no later than 7 Dec 1908 and became naturalized in 1917. He moved to Oakland around 1920.
