Jun-11-07  Whitehat1963: Great actor: Jaws, The Sting, The Deep, From Russia with Love, and as King Henry VIII in A Man for All Seasons. Still, Jaws is probably his best performance. And supposedly he wrote that classic monologue about the USS Indianapolis. Quint is a great character.

Joshka: Wasn't there a "Shaw" who wrote an article in a magazine or newspaper many, many years ago, probably in the 40's or 50's...anyway, cannot quote verbatim, but something to the effect, that......"Chess players seem to feel they are doing something important or creative with their minds, when really they are just wasting their time"....hope someone else can remember the quote and utter distain that this Shaw had for us chess nuts!:-)
Mar-04-14  norami: In his most famous role he was eaten by a shark, in his second most famous role he was conned out of half a million dollars, and in his third most famous role he was strangled to death by James Bond.
Mar-04-14  Benzol: He also starred in the original of "The Taking of Pelham 123". His character electrocuted himself at the end IIRC.
Mar-04-14  RedShield: It's a bit highbrow for <cg.com>, but I've seen him in films of a couple of Harold Pinter plays, <The Caretaker> and <The Birthday Party>. Also on DVD, I'd recommend <The Hireling> and <Tomorrow at Ten>.

HeMateMe: in an interview Shaw said he came to work drunk to film the <Jaws> boathouse scene with richard Dreyfus because both characters were drinking, in the movie script.

Didn't work out, Shaw's work was left on the floor that day. He came back sober the next day for the shoot (where he and Dreyfus compare scars, fish wounds) and it all worked well. So much for method acting.
