Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-04-13  optimal play: <<Mr. John M’Rae is the President of the School of Arts Chess Club.

He belongs solely to the colonial school of chess, and has acquired his chief reputation as a player within the last twelve months, during which time his progress has been very rapid.

In 1868 he was not considered equal to either Lea, Delohery, or Brady, and was handicapped in a lower class.

In the tournament of 1869 he obtained fourth prize, and has just lately carried off the champion prize at the School of Arts.

His play abounds in small subtleties, and he has a very fair knowledge both of time and position.

Like Mr. Heydon, however, he is liable to commit oversights, and occasionally loses heart in an uphill battle.>
