Oct-20-14  ljfyffe: <According to Larry Fyffe, who has read the original French article in "Le Monde Illustre", Henderson spent his youth in St.-Liboire. For twelve years he was the district magistrate for St.-Hyacinthe. In 1866 Henderson started a chess column in the "Montreal Gazette". --- from Writings in Chess History by John Hilbert, p. 48.>
Oct-22-14  ljfyffe: <karpova> Shaw participated on nearly every important OTB chess tournament in Canada in the 1870s and 1880s, and won at least one prize at each event. In 1881, he received a magnificent silver cup from M.T. Ledroit of Quebec City after claiming the title of Canadian OTB Champion.
