Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-18-14  Karpova: Bruno Nagel, <Marine Oberlehrer> (navy schoolmaster) of Wilhelmshaven, successfully participated in the tournaments of the <oldenburgisch-ostfriesischen> Chess Federation.

He was reserve (second) lieutenant of the 23rd Bavarian Infantry regiment during the <Lothringischen Feldzuges> (lorraine campaign). He suffered a bullet wound in the face and went to Regensburg for recovery, where he played this game B Nagel vs NN, 1914.

For some time, he was stationed in Landau, Palatinate, and impatiently awaiting return to the front. He returned to the front and died during the battles at Ypern.
