  Tabanus: Sunday Gazette-Mail (Charleston), 29 Nov. 1959, p. 6D:

<The first of the year, the Charleston Chess Club is losing one of its better players. Walt Crede will transfer to Des Moines, Iowa, to take over the position of public relations director with the Goodwill Industries there. He is now an official of Goodwill Industries of Kanawha County, Inc. Crede learned to play chess on a classroom blackboard at Charleston High so many years back that he refuses to remember. He became one of the charter members of the local chess organization, wrote chess colums for the local papers and helped put Charleston prominently on the chess map. Crede twice held the city chess crown (1940-41) and was champion of West Virginia in 1941. In 1956 he was winner of the open championship title in the Wheeling state meet. Crede's style has always been of the rough-and-tumble variety. He prefers a wide-open game, but can hold his own in tight scrambles. His particular style of play developed him into one of the best end-game protagonists in the area.>

Sunday Gazette-Mail, 14 March 1976, p. 5D:

<We heard recently of Walt Crede, who was once West Virgina champion. Walt is now an information specialist with the Iowa Employment Security Commission. Don't know how much chess he plays now but he would be glad to hear from any old friends. His address: 1812 Hickman Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50314.>
