GrahamClayton: Edward George Spencer-Churchill represented Oxford University in four successive Varsity matches from 1895-1898. He joined the British Army and saw service in the Boer War and World War 1, receiving the Military Cross in that latter conflict. Spencer-Churchill was High Sheriff of Worcester in 1924-1925 and a trustee of the National Gallery from 1943-1950. Spencer-Churchill fell into a hot bath at his Charles St home and was badly scalded. He was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries a week later. He was a first cousin of Sir Winston Churchill.
