MissScarlett: (Hull) Daily Mail, November 21st 1916, p.3:

<CURIOUS DOMESTIC QUARREL.

Frederick William Boff was summoned for assaulting his wife at North London Police Court on Monday.

Mrs Boff said that her husband made some accusation against her, for which there was not the slightest ground, and then struck her, giving her a black eye.

On oath Mr Boff denied assaulting his wife. Far from being cross with his wife he embraced her, meaning to kiss her, but she struggled, and kicked him, and then he had to restrain her from throwing the vases at him.

Mr Tilley (for the wife): Do your kisses usually have black eyes?

The Husband: She had no black eye.

Mr Tilley: She did. I saw it myself.

Both parties were bound over to keep the peace, [Mr?] Hedderwick remarking that in the absence of witnesses it was oath against oath.>
