Apr-09-22  vonKrolock: Vladimir Akimovich Bron (September 14, 1909, Nikolaev, Nikolaev town administration, Kherson province, Russian Empire <NOTA today's Mykolaiv, Ukraine> - October 1, 1985, Sverdlovsk, RSFSR, USSR) - Soviet chess composer. International grandmaster and judge of the international category in chess composition. A strong chess player of the 1st category, later a candidate for master of sports. (...) Since 1930, he studied at the Kharkov Chess Club under the guidance of A. A. Alekhin. In 1935 he became the bronze medalist of the Nauka DSO championship, a point behind the winners of the tournament S. V. Belavenets and G. N. Veresov. In the championship of the Ukrainian SSR in 1937, he took 5th place. In 1943, in the championship of Sverdlovsk, he took 4th place and was able to beat the winner of the tournament, grandmaster I. E.
