Kibitzer's Corner
May-01-12  jrofrano: Played him this past weekend in the MD open, really nice guy. Doesn't speak much english if any. After our game (which was incredibly close and i had the advantage/was winning throughout much of it) I wanted to speak to him about it to which he sheepishly said, "no english" so being the idiot I am i said "ruski?" To which he replied da, and then began spitting russian at a rapid pace with me, at this point I remembered that I had no knowledge of the russian language aside from a few pleasantries. I did my best to point this out to him, but he was still going. Finally it dawned on him that I didn't speak russian and we both smiled and then he did his best (in english) to try to explain where i went wrong. After this we would exchange pleasantries throughout the tournament in russian and english whenever we saw each other. He seems like a genuinely nice person who was interested in how I was doing in the tournament and would come by when he had the chance to look at my game.
