"Danke Wilhelm!

An diesem Freitag wird Wilhelm Schlemermeyer beerdigt. Nur 52 ist er geworden. Ich hätte ihn sogar für einige Jahre jünger gehalten. Dabei ist er in Berlin eines natürlichen, wenn auch plötzlichen und für alle überraschenden Todes gestorben. Ich habe im Schach selten einen so freundlichen und ausgeglichenen Zeitgenossen getroffen. Als Trainer und Lehrer hat er viele begeistert (und wird, wie die Reaktionen auf der Seite seines Kreuzberger Schachclubs zeigen, bereits schmerzlich vermisst). (Nachtrag:) Ich bin, wie ich mittlerweile gesehen habe, nicht der erste Blogger, der ihm unter diesem Titel gedenkt. Und es gibt einen bewegenden Nachruf von Holger Franke.

Als Autor wurde Wilhelm Schlemermeyer unterschätzt und viel zu wenig gefragt. Selbstmarketing und an der Oberfläche kratzen war nicht seine Sache. Dabei stellt seine Website Schachfieber das allermeiste in den Schatten, was in deutscher Sprache über Schach durch das Netz geistert. Es ist mir peinlich, dass dies das erste Mail ist, dass ich auf sie verweise. Ob und wie dieses wunderbare Kaleidoskop unseres Spiels erhalten bleiben kann, will seine Familie in den nächsten Wochen klären. Ich bin sicher, dass viele, wie ich, bereitwillig dafür spenden würden. "

Dec-28-16  JSchlemermeyer: RIP - Wilhelm is my father; unfortunately I did not get a chance to know him. I too have a passion for chess & am grateful for the collection of his games hosted on this site!

Thank you 'whiteshark' for your posts and the link to his picture (as I have only seen a handful of pictures of him). I know he is at peace and probably enjoys watching me play when I do!
