jnpope: Do we have any biographical data on Cuthbertson?

I found a <David Cuthbertson> listed as a problem solver in a few issues of the <Illustrated London News> in late 1883.

And <R. H. Cuthbertson> (also as R. Cuthbertson and H. Cuthbertson) shows up playing for "North London" in a few team events in 1892-1894.

Both probably need to be checked to at least eliminate them as being this particular Cuthbertson.

MissScarlett: Nothing doing I suppose without an initial.
Jun-18-25  stone free or die: Harding gives him as <A. Cuthbertson> in his <Blackburne> book, p63 G-104 (BCA 1868).

Typo?

Jun-18-25  stone free or die: There's also a <F. Cuthbertson>, London, subscriber to a 1876 book on chess problems.

  MissScarlett: <A Cuthbertson> at Edochess: http://www.edochess.ca/tournaments/...

A range of sources which could be checked.

jnpope: I checked all the sources at EDO, the only one I don't have access to is:
"Gillam, London, 1868/9, page 2, 4, 6"

In checking "Harding, <Joseph Henry Blackburne>, page 58, 509" I see he cites another source for Cuthbert information on page 62:
Graham #40

Which I find no mention of an author named Graham in the bibliography, so perhaps he meant Gilliam #40?

jnpope: Renette also gives "A." for Cuthbertson in his cross table.

I suspect Harding and Renette got that initial from Gillam and I doubt he cited a source just for a first initial.

MissScarlett: Is there a numerical list of Gillam's books?

jnpope: No, but it looks like he used it to denote game numbers... for Blackburne-Hampton he cites 'Gilliam 1868 #4" (same page; which is 63 not 62 as I typed earlier).
