Dr. Henry Hele Bate, born Swansea WLS; died Paris FRA.

The son of Charles Spence Bate, a Plymouth dentist, and Emily Amelia Hele, of Wellad Lake, near Ashburton. Passed his primary exam in anatomy and physiology in July 1879 and became a surgeon. He took over the practice of Dr. Norton in Biddenden in the fall of 1890 and was made the medical officer for Biddenden in March 1891.
