MissScarlett: Western Daily Press, February 25th 1902, p.5:

<As briefly announced in our obituary notices yesterday, the news of the death by accident of Mr Henry Selfe Leonard was on Sunday received in Bristol. A Reuter's telegram states that Mr Leonard, who was staying at an hotel in Rome, went to his room by the lift, and afterwards fell down the staircase, sustaining injuries to which he not long after succumbed. The deceased gentleman was a son of the late Mr Solomon Leonard, of Clifton, and spent his earlier days in this city. He was a brother of Mr Edward A. Leonard, secretary of the Bristol Royal Infirmary, and cousin of the Rev. H. Arnold Thomas. Mr and Mrs Selfe Leonard had been wintering on the Continent, and after staying some time at Mentone, Mr Leonard left that place for Rome. For a number of years Mr Leonard practised as a solicitor in London, but later in life gave himself largely to the cultivation of plants. Living at Hitherbury, Guildford, he was well known in the horticultural world, and had made a special study of Alpine plants. He was the owner of two hardy nurseries at Guildford and Compton, where he grew Alpine and other rock plants commercially on a large scale. He was also very popular in local chess circles. Mr Leonard was 58 years of age.>

MissScarlett: He would have been an uncle, i.e., his sister, <Emily Selfe Page>, was Henry's mother.
