Joseph Maynard Morgan, born Laurel, MD USA; died New York, NY USA

'Twas the 19th of April, in '80, which had the distinciton of being the first birthday of "Joe." The favored town was Laurel, Neb (sic). His home is now in Washington, D.C., where he is always willing to furnish advice gratis, on any subject, to patriotic and aspiring youths. He has spent four years in Andover preparing for the wider field of Yale University.(1)

Attended Yale in 1899 and 1900, but did not graduate.(2)

  jnpope: "J. Maynard Morgan, a former newspaper man and advertising executive, died Monday evening at the Polyclinic Hospital. His age was 77. Mr. Morgan, who lived at 214-57 Ninety-third Avenue, Queens Village, Queens, began his newspaper career on The Kingston (N. Y.) Argus and later was a reporter on The Brooklyn Daily Eagle. He left reporting to join the advertising department of The New York Post. His last position in advertising was that of vice president of the Beebe Agency, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, a firm he joined in 1938. Mr. Morgan graduated from Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass., in 1898 and from Yale in 1902. He was a director and assistant treasurer of the Horatio Alger Committee of the American Schools and Colleges Association, a vice president of the Queens Village Republican Club and a County Committeeman of the Republican party in Queens. Surviving are his widow, Nettie; a daughter, Mrs. Muriel Chism, and a grandchild."
