William Graham Clerk, born Carlisle ENG; died Boston, MA USA.

His father was William Farquaharson Clerk and his mother, Anne Gertrude Clerk. He prepared for college at the Roxbury Latin School and entered college in the fall of 1901. In college he was identified principally with the Chess Club and the track team. In 1897 he won the quarter-mile in the Varsity games and was second in the 220 in the fresh man games. In 1899 he was third in the quarter in the 'Varsity games, second in the quarter and 220 in the class games, and in the fall games. In 1900 he won both the 220 and the quarter in the class games and won the 220 and was second in the 440 in the 'Varsity games. In the same year he was second in the quarter and third in the 220 in the Harvard-Yale dual track games and he was fourth in the quarter in the Inter-collegiate Athletic Association games. In the fall games of 1900 he was second in the 100 yard dash and first in the 220. He ran on his class relay team in 1899, 1900, and 1901, and on the 'Varsity relay teams which defeated the University of Pennsylvania in 1900 and in 1901. He was a member of the track team which won the championship at the Inter-collegiate Athletic Association games in 1901, winning third place in the 440. He was a substitute on the class hockey team in 1900 and 1901. He was a member of the Kappa Gamma Chi, the Whist Club, the Roxbury Latin School Club, and was secretary of the Chess Club. He played on the chess team which defeated Yale in 1900 and 1901.(1)

Death due to appendicitis/septicaemia.
