Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-08-14  thomastonk: This is C.A. Kruijer, a Dutch who lived in Krefeld/Germany and played for the club usually called 'Turm Krefeld' (officially 'Krefelder Schachklub Turm 1851'). He was a very strong local player and won city and club championships. In 1941 he participated in an evaluation tournament ('Wertungsturnier', July 5-13, Krefeld) for the German championships, and played a draw with the winner Bogoljubov. He was killed in the final year of WW II by a low-flying plane.

His son Leo Kruijer was also a chess player and the owner of the chess shop 'Oskar Beekmann', where I bought my very first chess book. Leo was president of the chess club 'Springer St.Tönis 1949' and active as an chess official in North Rhine-Westphalia. During my final two years as a youth player I was a member of his club, and I owe him very much, e.g. I saw Tal, Miles, Hübner etc. playing, attended a lecture by Flohr and analysed with Bagirov. Leo was killed by a tragic accident in the mid-1980s. He had three chess-playing sons.

I'll submit the game C.A. Kruijer vs Boguljubov.
