His name is given in some western books as ‘Gelvig’ (a straight transliteration from cyrillic) and sometimes quite incorrectly as ‘Helving’. According to a Russian obituary entry he died of pneumonia March 27, 1885 (in Moscow) at the age of 55/56 years.
