Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-28-14  thomastonk: From "The Era" of September 3, 1871:

"GRAF.- You are mistaken. The Astronomer, Schumacher, was a resident of Hamburg, not Hanover. He was an enthusiastic Chess-player, certainly ; but the gentleman you mean was Mr Schultz, also an astronomer and a clever Chess-player. It was he who built the Astronomical Observatory at Hanover, and had inscribed on it ``George Schultz, Wine Merchant, Botanist, Natural Philosopher, Astronomer, African Traveller, Poet, and Chess-Player.´´"

Jan-28-14  thomastonk: He has a German Wikipedia entry from which I will take the birth and death date.
