Jul-04-20  phil master: no. the player who won this game from anand was Tony Randolph a master who I met playing speed chess at dupont circle in Washington DC. I was playing on the board next to this game against senior master Jonathan Schoer . I managed to draw that game. Anand showed what a good sport was after thi game I am happy that He is still a world class player at 50
Jul-04-20  jith1207: <Phil master>: do you know how Anand became a participant of Philadelphia open? Were foreigners usually playing in such famous opens? Or was Anand touring USA for tournaments that he got to play in this open?
Jul-06-20  phil master: jith1207 This tournament was the 1987 World Open which in those days had many grandmasters playing in it. Anand was world junior champion at that time and became a Grandamaster that year. At last years World Open I encountered GM John Fedorowicz whom I have known since 1976. upon seeing me he said " Hi phil we are both still alive". Out of two games against him I have two draws. He was amused when I remarked that with a result like that I felt like a fugitive from the law of averages.

Delicious.

Met Fed at the 1978 Hartford Open, as I was getting served up to Sal Matera, the first titled player I met heads-up. Seemed like a decent guy.
