Oct-24-06  2021: Has anyone seen Joel Johnson before? I have. I played a tournment game with him. And I lost quickly to him.

  perfidious: Joel's an old friend, known here as <FearNoEvil>, whom I haven't been in contact with since the end of my playing career in 2001. Always played interesting, tactical chess.

Nice book on attacks against lower rated players . Very enjoyable book.

Mar-28-14  FearNoEvil: Yes perfidious(Alan Shaw), Johnson - Cline was in Formation Attacks - just released the third book in the series, "Positional Attacks". Will be working on "Attacking 101: Volume #002" in the fall of 2014.

Attacking 101: Volumes 2-4 before Xmas hopefully and Mental Perceptions (Formation Attacks 4) in 2015. A bunch of coaches use my books for teaching including FM Eric Schiller and IM Jim Rizzitano.   FSR: Sadly, Joel has reportedly died. He had been in ill health for some time.

SHOCKING NEWS! - News was received today about the passing of national master Joel F. Johnson in Phoenix, Arizona on July 29, 2023. Joel was from Lowell, Mass. and had been a very active player in Massachusetts for many years before he moved to Phoenix in late summer 2001. He was a multi-time champion of the Billerica Chess Club. On settling in Arizona, he became a chess coach and a teacher. He was also a chess author. He was born on December 12, 1955. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1973 and attended Lowell Tech from 1973 to 1975. His death came at age 67. More information about his passing will be posted as it becomes available.>

Last time I saw Joel was in March 2001 at a tournament in Woburn, Massachusetts. He was not playing, but it was a pleasure to see him as always.
