Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-24-08  whiteshark: "A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.

Specialization is for insects."

So said by Robert Heinlein's character Lazarus Long in Time Enough for Love.

Jun-24-08  Monoceros: And, since Heinlein was merely imitating Hemingway with that passage, he should have added "blow his face off with a shotgun", which (correctly timed) would have spared us <Stranger in a Strange Land>.
Jun-24-08  square dance: <Stranger in a Strange Land> is that the jack-centric episode of LOST that everyone hates?

Ron: I think <Monoceros> was refering to the SF novel: http://www.amazon.com/Stranger-Stra...

Actually I like Heinlein. A novel of his that is not mentioned much but you might be interested is <Revolt in 2100>, about a revolt against a tele-vangilist theocracy which rules the US.

Jun-24-08  square dance: i guess that possible. perhaps he isnt intellectual enough to enjoy network programming. ;-)
Jun-25-08  chesstoplay: The Notebooks of Lazarus Long have been published seperately from Heinlein's Time Enough for Love at least twice.

Baen Books in the USA published it last as a trade paperback maybe 5 years ago.

Oct-24-10  myschkin: . . .

“You have attributed conditions to villainy that simply result from stupidity."

(from "Logic of Empire" by R. Heinlein, 1941)
