GrahamClayton: Tony grew up in California and in the early 70's he settled in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia. He never fulfilled his ambition to become a master, but there is little doubt he had the talent to do so. When I started playing competitively in 1982 he was considered one of B.C.'s top players. What was perhaps most striking about Tony was his competitive spirit, totally at odds with his quiet personality. Draw was definitely a four-letter word for Tony. Countless times we would travel to weekend tournaments together and countless Saturday nights his game would be the last to finish as he fought hard to squeeze out a win. Although he had more than one lengthy layoff from tournaments, he would always be drawn back. His last major tournament was the 2001 Keres Memorial.
