He is an IM who won the 2004 Canadian Junior Championship and finished tied for 3rd-6th place (tied for 1st-2nd at 7 were Vladimir Romanenko and Alexander Shabalov but he trailed with 6.5/9) in the 2011 Manhattan Open. In 2008 and 2009, he played for the NYU team at the PanAmerican Intercollegiate championship.
