  Sally Simpson: Paul is a registered blind player. He was one of the first to notice a mistake in the Tal game in Fischer's original 60MG's. He told B.H. Wood who gave him a years subscription to CHESS. Shortly after that Paul played in first tournament.

Tragically in 1976 Paul lost his sight in an accident at Warwick University. He never lost his love for the game and joined the Braille Chess Association.

There's more than one Tal game in MSMG-

Fischer's loss on the white side of the Sozin where he catches Tal in the opening in the Bled/Zagreb/Belgrade candidates (last round iirc), but describes why he doesn't play the best move in a critical position and goes on to lose;

the ... Ba5 Winawer miniature from Leipzig (ol) which resolves into a perpetual check, and

his Sicilian win from Bled 1961 in which Tal allows Ndb5 and Bf4 and gets crushed.

Kudos for spotting a mistake, whichever game. Fischer gave credit to people who pointed out errors and improvements (e.g. the Dragon game against Reshevsky and John Littlewood's observation on the Stein game from Sousse 1967).

  Sally Simpson: <Hi Muttley101>

Sorry, I should have been more clear, I thought the error was more well known. My source is BCM Vol.92, 1972, page 19. (which is what I have scribbled at the bottom of this game in my copy.)

Page 122 of the Faber 1972 edition of M60MG's this game (17). Fischer vs Tal, 1959

The book gives 50...Ba1 51.a4 b2 'White resigns.' But 51.Rc8+ wins for White.

In the game Tal played 50...Kc7 which prevents 51.Rc8+ The correct score is given in the Batsford Algebraic edition.

Speaking of M60MG's. A few weeks I just happened to be passing a coach showing a position to a junior player. 'Aha' I declared; Fischer - Dely 1965 (I had the game right but it was 1967) but even so, it was looks of admiration all around. (I recognise these looks of admiration, I get them on a daily basis.)

It was easy for me to spot. It is my favourite game in that book. It appears in the notes to a Geller Game (No.58) see; Fischer vs P Dely, 1967 (kibitz #37)
