GrahamClayton: "Bob Shortz, who was purchasing officer for the United Penn Bank in Wilkes-Barre, PA, died December 15 after a battle with cancer.

Bob was with the bank since 1953. He was past president of the Franklin Club and a member of the Westmoreland Club. He was also treasurer of the Purchasing Management Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania and a director of the US Chess Federation.

Before all that, Bob had a distinguished military career, starting with his Army enlistment in 1940. He advanced through the grades to captain. He served in Guadalcanal, New Britain, New Guinea, the Phillipines, and later in Korea, He received the Silver Star. A graduate of the Command and General Staff College in Kansas, Bob later served in Germany with the Intelligence Division. Although greatly disappointed in Princeton's football record over the past ten years, his great love and loyalty to the university showed through to this last fall. After learning of his terminal cancer, he didn't miss one game this season."

Princeton Alumni Weekly 1978, Volume 79, p. 34.
