GrahamClayton: F Hollins, a leading player from Birmingham who later emigrated to New Zealand.
Nov-05-13  thomastonk: This player came to my attention when I learned about a match against George Edward H Bellingham in 1896. Hollins lost +5, -7, =10.

Around 1901/1902 Hollins purchased a farm on the other side of the world, in Huirangi, Taranaki, New Zealand (->Google maps). I couldn't find any games from over there, but he served many years as referee for the brillancy prizies of NZ's championships.

In occasion of his emigration, the BCM published an extensive biography with a picture of him: BCM, 1901. p. 480-482.

His only game here (up to now!) is not with Captain Mackenzie (as it is at present). I'll kibitz the details there.

PS: He married in NZ on October 5, 1907: http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cg... .

PPS: He appears in http://www.chesshistory.com/winter/....

PPPS: A win of Hollins over Jasnogrodsky is often given. It's not worth a look.
