GrahamClayton: Bernard Winkler (1922-2010) - 1987 United States Amateur Champion, and multiple club champion of the Reshevsky Chess Club in Boca Raton, Florida.

Winkler's first involvement with chess was in 1937, when as a 15 year-old he was the only player not to lose to Sammy Reshevsky in a 42 player simultaneous exhibition.

Winkler captained the Columbia University chess team, where he was studying to become a brain surgeon.

His medical career limited his competitive play, although he did play a casual game against Bobby Fischer in 1957.
