Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-22-16  hemy: Natan (Nathan) Borowski was born on August 18th 1907 in Vilnius (Wilna), Lithuania, then Russian Empire.

In May 1942 he was a prisoner in Vilnius Ghetto. In 1943 his parents Lana and Dawid were separated from the children and shot. Natan and his sister Cyla Tolczynska (Borowski), together with 5 other Jews was hiding at home of a Polish farmer Jan Raszkowski.

Irving and Moshe were deported to the Buchenwald concentration camp. There, from the very first days Moshe's fate was merciless, he became ill, died and in 1943 was burned in crematorium. Irving was able to survive, on 1945 April 13 Buchenwald was liberated by Allied troops.

After the WWII was ended Natan moved to Warsaw. First serious chess competition for Natan Borowski took place on June 6, 1946, in the first post-war Warsaw chess championship. In hhe tournament participated only 10 chess players. Totally unknown newcomer from Vilnius won the champion title with 8.5/9.
