Feb-24-06  DeepBlade: Only game in the database by Schrufer.
I strongly recommend this game, its a tactical inferno in there! I did a little annotation on it, I hope you like it.
Feb-28-08  D.Observer: Anyway, who is Schrufer?

GrahamClayton: There was a German problem composer of the latter part of the 19th century called Franz Schrufer - could this be him?
Jun-30-12  Calli: <GrahamClayton> SBC also asked about this in the game kibitzing. I can say that the earliest publication of the game seems to be Max Lange 3rd ed. Perhaps Schrüfer gave it to Lange. On the other hand, was he really in Paris in 1859 and playing Morphy an even game before he was known in the chess world?
Jul-01-12  Calli: Correction - the Schrüfer game is not in Max Lange 3rd. So much for that theory. Now, I don't where it was first published.

jnpope: The earliest publication of this game that I've been able to verify is "Paul Morphy. Skizze aus der Schachwelt", 2nd ed., 1881, p229-230, given as Morphy vs "S...r", Paris, 1859.
Oct-13-20  paulmorphy1969: [Max Lange gives the name as "S --- r." The game was played on the evening of a dinner offered to Morphy by August Ehrmann.] Real names are Schrufer Probably Franz Schrüfer, also spelled Schruefer (Ahorntal, March 17, 1823 - Bamberg, August 6, 1909), was a German chess composer.
