Aug-09-15  zanzibar: Local Boston player of note:

<Vadim Martirosov was born in Baku, U.S.S.R., and began playing chess at the age of 5. As a child, he studied under A.M. Morguluev, who was then coaching Vladimir Akopian. Later, Vadim entered the Palace of Pioneers Chess Club in Baku, the home club of Kasparov. There he studied under O.I. Privorotsky, who was teaching Kasparov, Sutovsky and many other now-titled players. At 13, Vadim became a Candidate Master, equivalent to USCF 2200. After moving to the U.S., he earned the title of USCF national master in 1996. The next year Vadim played in a number of regional tournaments and reached his peak rating of 2345 FIDE. Since then, he has become a full-time instructor of chess in several local schools as well as privately. He is currently rated 2249 FIDE, 2218 USCF.>
