  mifralu: < MR. C. CHEPMELL.

The St. George's Club is about to sustain a loss, which every member will regret, though it may only be a temporary one. Mr. C. Chepmell, the bright and brilliant player, who just won the Lowenthal Tournament at the Club, has been ordered on foreign service, and will this week sail to the Mauritius on H.M.S. Tamar. Though sorry that such a talented player should leave the country, we nevertheless wish him a hearty good speed on the journey. We note that although Mauritius is only a small island, yet it must be a very hotbed of chess, as there are no fewer than three chess societies located there, the principal being at Port Louis. Mr. Chepmell will no doubt receive a hearty welcome there from the chess fraternity. >
