  MissScarlett: Cheltenham Chronicle, 24th February, 1912, p.8:

<Mr. Witchard is a very good chess player also. He has played for Gloucester on numerous occasions, and has a nice record of wins. Perhaps the proudest moment of his life was when he beat Dr. Lasker, the world's champion, in a simultaneous exhibition of the latter, in Gloucester. The game, which was a brilliant one, appeared in the "Chess Amateur." A framed photograph of the doctor now hangs up in his room, the gift of the members of the Gloucester Chess Club. It is a prized memento of a memorable encounter.>
