Honza Cervenka: Well, Sammy Reshevsky in 1921 was not yet master but a 10 years old wunderkind giving simuls to adult players. Van Zante was apparently quite good amateur.
Feb-02-19  SkySports: You'right, and also Lasker was not anymore in his prime. Still a decent curricula for an amateur though...

Stonehenge: Good find, Perhaps Jacob van Zante, but we need Tabanus here :)

Tabanus: Chess player <John> van Zante according to Oregonian, June 14, 1921. It could be John van Zante b. 1 Jan 1866 d. 14 Dec 1931, but there's one more:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial... (1865-1931)
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial... (1890-1959)

There is also Monroe County News, Monday 23 April <1962>, which reports of the death of a farmer <John van Zante> near Moravia, Iowa, on "Friday" (April 20). The article says he was born 3 Sep 1888 in Pella, Iowa. A family tree has the name of that guy as <Govvert John Van Zanten>.

The Oregon Daily Journal 1913 says chess player J. van Zante b. <1879> in Iowa, a former telegraph operator.

The 1920 census for Portland, Oregon has John van Zante, 53 (= b. abt. 1867), Attorney, born in Iowa. Looks like the only candidate in the Portland census 1920.

Likely the judge/lawyer John van Zante b. 1 Jan 1866 d. 14 Dec 1931, but the 1879 ref. is disturbing.

There is a <Jacob> van Zante, b. 12 Jan 1879, "Railroad Emp. Transcontinental Bur..." lived in Portland, Oregon (WW1 record 1917). In 1920 he was a "Inspector of freight R. Road" living in Tualatin, Washington, Oregon. According to a familty tree he died 24 Aug 1946 in Sylva, Jackson, North Carolina.

Hmm. This could take days, if at all possible.

Stonehenge: Thanks for the effort. John lived already in 1904 in Portland and visited his father and other family in Pella in 1904.
