May-12-06 | | percyblakeney: This would have been the game where one could bet on underpromotion :-) |
May-12-06
 | | tamar: White King can "catch up" by Kf5 but then it blocks the f file and the Black King can move opposite with ...Kf3 |
May-12-06 | | Caloy: <tamar> Ah, I see it, thanks! |
May-12-06
 | | tamar: Bacrot must be getting irritated. He bashed out some moves going right for the knight underpromotion. |
May-12-06 | | you vs yourself: <tamar> It'd be checkmate, if he doesn't underpromote. |
May-12-06 | | artemis: I did not see the mating threat leading to the knight underpromotion. Well done Kamsky. Not sure if it is winning, but it was still tremendously well played. |
May-12-06 | | cannibal: <artemis>
It's not enough to win. This type of underpromotion is well known, and occurs from time to time in tournament games. |
May-12-06 | | artemis: cannibal: in most positions yes, but look at the box that the king is in. I think that there might be some lines with a win, although black will have to misstep. |
May-12-06 | | YouRang: Kamsky just hoping that Bacrot will blunder the K+R vs K+N endgame now. I should be a draw. |
May-12-06 | | Catfriend: It's a clear draw now. |
May-12-06 | | cannibal: <artemis>
Yeah, of course black can still blunder, but I think these two are familiar with the position. You'll probably find that one in every endgame book. |
May-12-06
 | | tamar: It's possible to lose this easily. Kamsky is trying to lose a move, I believe Doesn't ...Rf3 now win?
May-12-06 | | Catfriend: <tamar> No, Rf3 Ne1 |
May-12-06 | | artemis: 79. Rf3 Ne1 78. Rf2 Nd3 79. Rd2 Ne1 and if the rook attacks the knight, then Kf1 is available. |
May-12-06
 | | tamar: thanks <artemis&Catfriend> I missed that.
Wonder if it's agreed drawn here. No moves. |
May-12-06 | | Hitchhiker: <cannibal>
I posted at move 60
Is this really a theoretical draw? |
May-12-06 | | artemis: Cannbal: the reason I was wondering about this one is that it seems so close to those special cases where white can win because the king is already in such an inferior position. I can see know, that there is no forced win, and I see the drawing motifs now. If you check Basic Chess Endings by Fine, I think he has a few of the special cases listed in there that I am referring to. But it seems that black needs two moves. |
May-12-06 | | artemis: tamar: I am wondering the same thing. Perhaps there is a pause since the arbiters must agree on the draw. |
May-12-06 | | percyblakeney: Maybe Bacrot resigned :-) |
May-12-06
 | | tamar: <artemis> Kamsky is used to the no draw rule. I am sure he prefers the Sofia rules to being clobbered by his father for offering one :-) They are playing on! |
May-12-06 | | Catfriend: Does anybody know the time situation? |
May-12-06 | | Akavall: According to playchess.com Bacrot has less than 1 minute on the clock... |
May-12-06 | | Akavall: Kamsky has 14 minutes. |
May-12-06 | | percyblakeney: Kamsky can play on to move 124 if he wants to... |
May-12-06
 | | tamar: The knight and King are separated now. Win? |
