juan31: ¡que visión! del Maestro Golz es un excelente final
Nov-11-11  syracrophy: A great POTD for Saturday or Sunday after 25.a5?
May-09-15  Delboy: This game deserves more exposure. Black's bishops were deadly. White had an initiative, but presumably the knight maneuver to c4 was just too slow.

An Englishman: Good Evening: What a combination. We now know that 8.Bc4,Bb7; 9.Qe2 is more aggressive and yet sounder than the seemingly solid 8.Bd3?!, but back then 6...gxf6 might have scared some people.

Check It Out: Awesome attack. I'm not quite getting the pun.
Jun-15-24  Delboy: The Saxon "Pietzsch" is pronounced just like the English "peach". As a member of the tribe, I feel that I am allowed to make fun of our difficulties with the English "th" and other sometimes bigotry German stereotypes. Nice timing by CG immediately after a high-scoring opening match at Euro 2024
Jun-15-24  Pyrandus: Der Lehrer "Pötzsch" war Lehrer des jungen Hitler in Linz. Schreckliche Name!
Jun-15-24  goodevans: The final move is very neat. I imagine that White foresaw the R moving to discover the attack but was expecting to diffuse the Black attack with 29.Qe5+ or 29.Qf1. 28...Rd1! would have come as a nasty surprise.
Jun-15-24  mrknightly: Well, it was a pietzsch of a game.

Black would have been looking at 26...Rd6 to stop 29.Qe5+ or 28...Rd2 29.Qe5+ but when the Rook slide past d2 onto d1 he realised he had just been triple pinned. The Queen, the Bishop and the f2 pawn.

Jun-15-24  Allderdice83: White's still wondering what sort of truck hit him. A double sacrifice leads to a forced mate, as Black's long-range pieces converge on the White king like laser beams coming from every direction at once. 29. Ne3 and 29. Qf1 both get mated quickly.

White has a pretty strong advantage out of the opening (Black's queenside castling was a bad idea), but White made three mistakes which together cost him the game.

22. dxc5? puts the Black bishop on C5 with a pin to the king on the f2 pawn. Goes to +0.5. Instead, just get on with the attack with 22. a5 (+1.2).

24. Nc4? allows Black to get the attack going with 24 ... Nh3+!. Continuation might be 25. gxh3 f4 26. Ne4 Rg8+ 27. Bg2 f5 28. Nxc5 Rxc5 29. f3 Bxf3 30. Kf2 Bxg2 (-2.9) Black has won back the piece while White's king is far more exposed than Black's. But Black lets White off the hook somewhat with 24 ... Rg8, and now

25. a5?? allows for the killing combination. Instead, White must defend with 25. Ne3 (-1.0)

  offramp: <CHESSGAME'S BIGGEST <EVER> BUZZKILLER>

Last night the German Huns beat the Scottish Huns 5-1. Ahoy hoy!!!

The great <Delboy> created a very good pun:

<"We Wo'n. Ze Goalz were Peaches".>

Everyone laughed.

They laughed at the puns on the names of Golz and Pietzsch. Get stuff! High comedy...

BUT WAIT HERE A MOMENT.

What is this?:

<We Wo'n.>...

Poor old <Delboy> decided to Sellotape in ANOTHER layer to his pun.

<WO'N> is used an abbreviation for (I think) Werner - but could be short for Wolfgang.

The laugh freezes on our lips.
