Apr-15-10 | | whiteshark: So many people post comments nowadays that we tend to look at content or moves and overlook that these people can't write. |

Apr-23-10
 | | James Demery: Can anyone get into Siman`s chess site? I sure can`t. It will go to the home page , but when I click on the chess tab the site starts tweaking. |

Jun-16-10 | | whiteshark: Quote of the Day
<<Opposite colored Bishops> are wonderful attacking weapons in the middlegame (or in endgames with many pieces remaining) since one Bishop can attack something that the other can't defend.> -- Jeremy Silman |
Jun-16-10 | | MaxxLange: amateurs/under 2200s overestimate the drawing chances in opposite colored bishop games, all the time i'm trying to learn the endgame theory for the theoretical B+2P v opposite B right now, and it's a lot trickier than I thought to hold a draw in many positions |
Jun-16-10 | | whiskeyrebel: I held a Philidor position (see Silman's endgame manual) in time trouble in the last round of a tournament a couple weeks ago. I'm glad I studied up during my pre event prep.I know it's the sort of endgame I "should" know, but I've seen players who outrate me botch it more than once. |
Sep-22-10 | | Raginmund: Does someone have the complete game from Harry Potter Socerer's Stone movie?? Glad if someone knows the game. |
Sep-22-10
 | | tpstar: <Sorcerer's Stone> It was an original composition by Silman: http://www.jeremysilman.com/movies_... |

Nov-26-10 | | Oxnard: You're* |
Nov-26-10 | | lopium: <Oxnard: You're*> I was about to say the same. To make things clearer, the current quote of the day is <Your never going to go anywhere if you can't blend positional and tactical considerations together.>. |

 | | HeMateMe: Leonard Nimoy--separated at birth? |
Dec-07-10 | | BobCrisp: Were they joined at the ears? |
Dec-07-10 | | MaxxLange: I saw the 4th edition at the chess club in Atlanta. It's a door-stop of a book! Buyers will at least get their money's worth, by weight |
Jan-11-11 | | RuralRob: I'd say he looks more like film director James Cameron. |
Jan-11-11 | | Everett: Has anyone checked out his site recently? Has he gotten quite astrological? |
Feb-24-11 | | Wyatt Gwyon: <everett> Yeah I was surprised to see the kind of stuff Silman is apparently into when I checked out his site for the first time. I guess the rigorous logic needed for chess doesn't carry over into a person's world view. |
Feb-24-11 | | Chesschatology: Silman/Astrology:
It's quite amusing that Silman's main chess weakness (an obsessive need to explain every tactic as somehow arising from supposed over-arching strategic themes) seems to carry over into his view of life! |

Feb-24-11
 | | kingfu: Jeremy , I hope you see these posts.
It must have been quite amazing to be next to The Fischer Monster, a Hebrew. Fischer was known to have only associated with Chess Players. However, Fischer reacted to his own heritage and you were shunned. This has to be one of the most bizarre moments in Chess History. |
Feb-24-11 | | Wyatt Gwyon: <kingfu> What? |
Feb-24-11
 | | kingfu: The Fischer Monster refused to sit down and break bread with Jeremy Silman, a known great Chess Player. Why?
Because Master Silman is a Hebrew, the exact same heritage as Robert James Fischer, also known as , The Fischer Monster. |
Feb-24-11 | | Wyatt Gwyon: Interesting story. I hadn't heard it. What were the details? |
Feb-24-11
 | | kingfu: Silman was going to come over to Fischer's abode for dinner. I believe it was after Silman had been successful in a chess tournament in New York. Fischer reacted violently and said, "I am not going to have any #$%%^^&&* Jews in my house." It is one of the most confusing things, ever, Wyatt. Something that we endlessly discuss, trying for cause and reason but, ultimately, failing. Fischer, whom we have proved was a Hebrew, said this about a great chess player. What difference should it make who are your parents? Do you play great chess or not? The Fischer Monster "thought" otherwise. |
Feb-24-11 | | Wyatt Gwyon: I wonder if Fischer ever came to realize he was Jewish. |
May-03-11 | | DanielBryant: His most recent version of HTRYC actually admits that it isn't practical to require a long-term plan in every situation and that plans 2-3 moves deep are often what is called for. I would say it is far more practical, and says a lot about his integrity as an author that he would be willing to radically tweak what has already brought him fame. |
