Oct-21-05  Gnome: Silman, would you elaborate please. I assume you refer to his book "Win with the London System". My local chess dealer promises to have a copy in on Monday, but I am curious.

BishopBerkeley: <Gnome> I wonder if you are familiar with the excellent "Bookup" openings training software from http://www.bookup.com/ ? If you are able to watch one of their interesting training videos, it is based on the London System:

http://www.bookup.com/chessvideo4.htm

If you are unable to view the video, you might check out some facts on the "London II" ebook by FM Charles Schulien :

http://www.bookup.com/ebooks.htm#Th...

Hope this is helpful!

(: ♗ Bishop Berkeley ♗ :)

P.S. While I applaud the well-designed Bookup.com software, I think that spending more than, say, 15% of ones "Chess time" on openings training is probably not a very good investment of time. What's nice about the Bookup software is that it enables you to spend such time as you wish to spend on openings training with near-optimal efficiency, in my opinion.

Oct-21-05  Gnome: Actually I prefer books, as I spend 50 hours a week in front of my office computer.

Oct-21-05  Gnome: Just one other thing. It seems that it here may be a mix-up between two Kovacevics: Vlatko and the much weaker Vladimir (actually there are three IMs and 2 GMs with the name Kovacevic).
Nov-09-05  sharpnova: that means five counts of suicide wouldn't fair very well in chess. maybe three that couldn't earn a title and 2 that couldn't even push a pawn.
Nov-14-05  notyetagm: Here is that London system book that <silman> was talking about: http://www.gambitbooks.com/books/lo....
Nov-14-05  Ivan23: <gnome> Vladimir Kovacevic is a same person as Vlatko Kovacevic and Vlado Kovacevic - those are just shorter variations of his name. There is a Croatian IM named BLAZimir Kovacevic, not VLADimir, and he is not related to Vladimir/Vlado/Vlatko Kovacevic.
Nov-14-05  notyetagm: <Ivan23> I figured as much since the GAMBIT book author Vlatko beat Fischer in 1970 and here is that game is referenced on Vladimir's page. I found it hard to believe that Fischer could lose to two different unknown Kovacevics.

:-)

Nov-15-05  Gnome: Try a search at http://www.fide.com/ratings/index.p... and you will find that there in another Vladimir Kovacevic, 13 years younger and from Serbia, not Croatia. I doubt that Vlatko, in this case, is short for Vladimir.
Nov-15-05  Gnome: The review of the book at http://www.bcmchess.co.uk/reviews/b... is interesting.

KOVACEVIC, Vlatko

Sep-09-07  Monkey King: Acording to FIDE his current rating is 2504 not 2278. http://www.fide.com/ratings/id.phtm...
Sep-09-07  Monkey King: The fide rating of Kovacevic, Vladimir(Serbia, born 1955) is 2278; however, these are different people so his rating should be changed to 2504.
Mar-01-08  jovack: Gnome, Vlatko is a Croatian name, where Vladimir is more commonly used by Serbs. The reason there are all these mix-ups is that it is uncommon for Serbs to carry a middle name.
Mar-26-08  brankat: Happy birthday Vladimir!
Apr-26-08  KarAkter: VLADO KOVACEVIC.Born 26.03.1942 in Dubrovnik!
Mar-26-09  WhiteRook48: I've been to this page before! Happy birthday!
Dec-29-09  technical draw: A master of the French Defense. Maybe I'll review his games and try it out again. (last time I tried the French I got clobbered (hello OD))
Dec-30-09  Red October: Hi <TD> I think the same thing happened in your Ruy Exchange Game :)
Dec-30-09  technical draw: <Hi <TD> I think the same thing happened in your Ruy Exchange Game :)>

Hmmm, there must be a pattern here but I can't quite figure it out. Maybe I should (gasp!) become a 1.d4 player.

Mar-26-10  wordfunph: GM Vlatko Kovacevic co-authored "Win with the London System" with Sverre Johnsen..

happy birthday Vlatko! hope you write a new book on London soon.

Mar-26-15  Karposian: Happy Birthday mr. Kovacevic! The book you wrote with Sverre Johnsen about the London System is terrific. Definitely the greatest book ever written about the London.
Mar-26-16  TheFocus: Happy birthday, Vladimir Kovacevic.
